South Kalimantan`s exports grew by an average of 25.67 percent in each of the past five years, well above the target of 10 percent set under the province`s medium-term development plan 2005-2011, Vice South Kalimantan Governor Rudy Resnawan said when opening the South Kalimantan Expo 2011 at the Murdjani soccer field.
The expo is held to mark the 61st anniversary of South Kalimantan province and the 66th anniversary of the Indonesian independence.
He said several sectors contributed a lot to the regional economy, including mining, natural rubber, palm oil and fishery sectors.
"The exports from the four sectors in the January-May 2011 period rose significantly so that the chance of developing them is still wide open to increase the export value until the end of this year," he said.
The higher export value suggested that the local economic growth made a headway, he said.
He asked business players not to worry about facing global economic challenges. "The South Kalimantan`s economy last year grew 5.58 percent percent so there is no need to worry about the global economic challenges."
"South Kalimantan`s economy expanded 5.58 percent in 2010 so business players should not worry about the global economic challenges because the South Kalimantan`s economy has performed well," he said.
He said all the province`s economic potentials must be developed amidst the ever increasingly fiercer global competition. (*)
