Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution said credits in June 2011 increased by 23.4 pct (yoy) prompted by investment credits which until May 2011 increased by 29 pct (yoy).

"Bank Indonesia continued boosting banking efficiency optimizing intermediary functions while maintaining overall banking stability," Darmin said here on Tuesday.

The stability of the banking industry was reflected in the CAR (Capital Adequacy Ratio) extremely below the minimum of 8 pct, and the maintenance of gross NPL (Non Performing Loans) under 5 pct.

In the meantime, Deputy Governor of BI Muliaman D Hadad said that the increase in credits was still the banking business plan of 24 pct.

However, he said that besides quantity, also important in increased quality of credits caused by investment credits, while consumption credits dropped.

Halim Alamsyah said it appeared that the banks have started changing their credit financing pattern focusing more on investment credits, followed by working capital credits 13 pct and consumption 10 pct.

Darmin said that investment credits have a favorable influence on the economy but in the long run.(*)
