Jakarta (ANTARA News) - FIFA President Sepp Blatter sent a congratulatory letter to Djohar Arifin Hussein, the newly elected chairman of the All-Indonesia Football Association (PSSI).

The letter was addressed to the chairman of the Indonesian National Sport Committee (KONI) to congratulate the election of Djohar Arifin Husin, KONI Spokeman Yongki said here Wednesday.

Blatter in the letter that he signed, expressed gratitude on behalf of FIFA for the smooth implementation of the PSSI extraordinary congress held in Solo, Central Java, last Saturday (July 9).

Sepp Blatter hoped that the new PSSI leadership could get supports from everybody.

Djohar Arifin Hussein, former deputy minister of youth and sport affairs, last Saturday, was elected as the new chairman of the PSSI for the 2011-2015 period.

In the second round of voting, Djohar who is known to be close to the majority voters or Group 78, got 61 votes, defeating Agusman Effendi who collected 38 votes, while one delegate abstained.

Djohar`s election in an extraordinary congress in Solo, Central Java, on Saturday, ended fierce disputes over the sport association`s leadership so far.

He said his short-term priority is preparing the national team for the coming Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) with a target of winning the champion title. The Games will be held in Palembang, South Sumatra, and Jakarta.

Farid Rahman was elected as the new vice general chairman of PSSI.

He gained 51 votes against Erwin Aksa who collected 48 votes out of the total 99 votes in the PSSI extraordinary congress which was organized by the PSSI Normalization Committee (KN) led by Agum Gumelar.

Duet Djohar Arifin Hussein - Farid Rahman both of the majority voters or Group 78 of the PSSI congress, replaced the previous PSSI leadership duet Nurdin Halid- Nirwan Bakrie.
