Darmin said rating agencies usually present their assessment early in the year so it was now not possible to predict when exactly Indonesia would get the status.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Darmin Nasution said he was optimistic Indonesia would soon gain investment grade status.

"I still believe we will soon be lifted up to investment grade and we should be grateful for that because the trend in other countries even goes downward while we are going upward," he said here on Thursday.

Darmin said rating agencies usually present their assessment early in the year so it was now not possible to predict when exactly Indonesia would get the status.

"Usually they give their assessment early in the year. But we are still holding discussions to see whether there is a faster assessment so that we could say that the end of this year is better," he said.

He said Indonesia`s economic conditions Were very god and potential to reach investment grade. "It is about time. There are obviously factors rating agencies have to consider in making their assessment," he added.

Darmin said if Indonesia had reached investment grade it will certainly be flooded by long-term and cheap funds such as pension and insurance funds.

"Usually pension funds from developed countries would not want to enter a country if it has not yet achieved investment grade. Pension funds are long-term and cheap funds. So when we reach investment grade, more funds will certainly flow in," he said.

Regarding the possibility that the US credit rating would decline, Darmin said it would not affect that country`s economy very much.(*)
