Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Three cabinet ministers met here on Wednesday to discuss efforts to accelerate the development of disadvantaged regions.

The ministers were Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, State Minister for Disadvantaged Regions Helmy Faishal Zaini, and Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih and the meeting wes held at Agung`s office.

Also present at the meeting were the secretary of people`s welfare minister, Indroyono Susilo, and representatives of the home affairs and transportation ministries.

Helmy Faishal Zaini said after the meeting that the acceleration of development at disadvantaged regions, leading regions, and outermost regions was one of national priorities in the 2010-2014 mid-term development plan.

"All related ministries and government institutions should have a consistency and commitment to implementing the accelerated development of disadvantaged regions in a bid to immediately address the gap problem," Helmy said.

He said the government was making every effort to accelerate the development in 70 districts in a bid to set them out of the category of disadvantaged regions in 2014.

According to him, the State Ministry for Disadvantaged Regions itself has encouraged an affirmative policy in the financing and development of regional fiscal to manage regional natural resources

based on prime products and commodities, in addition to improving the human resources quality through the community health and education strengthening programs.

Helmy said his ministry was also developing two priority activities namely district superior products and surgical village.

He said that at the meeting an agreement was reached to follow up a number of conclusions to sharpen the activities that are tailored to the needs of disadvantaged areas.
