Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The number of HIV/AIDS sufferers in Indonesia is increasing with additional cases in the January - March 2011 period reaching 351 sufferers, an Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) official said.

"The number of HIV/AIDS carriers increases every year because infected patients are not immediately aware of the disease with them," PMI Spokesman for East Jakarta Dewi Rahmadani said here on Thursday.

She made the remarks quoting data from the directorate general of infectious disease and environment control (PPM) of the ministry of health.

Dewi said that the cumulative number of HIV/AIDS sufferers from January 1987 to March 2011 had reached 24,482 of which 4,603 had died. (*)
