Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian military contingent Garuda grouped in the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was awarded a UN Peace Medal for its full dedication and responsibility as UN peace keeping force.

Commander of Konga XXIII-E/UNIFIL Lt Col Hendy Antariksa told ANTARA News in Jakarta Friday the peace medal had been given to the 282-member contingent from various units under the command of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon).

"They included 150 Indo FPC task force personnel, 49 Indo FHQSU task force personnel, 75 East Military Police personnel, seven Indo Medical personnel, and one member of the HQ Staff Maritime Task Force," he said.

Hendy said the medal presentation ceremony took place at Sudirman Square, Camp Green Hill, Naqoura, Southern Lebanon, on Thursday.

The medals were presented personally by the UNIFIL Commander to the commander of the Indonesian contingent Col Yulianta and the representatives of the five task forces.

Also presenting the medals was Mission Support Director Girish Sinha, western sector commander Brig Gen Gualtiero Mario De Cicco and Unifil Military Task Force commander Rear Admiral Luiz Henrique Caroli.

On the occasion, UNIFIL commander Alberto Asarta Cuevaz congratulated all the members of the Indonesian contingent for their dedication and full responsibility as UN peace keeping force in the Lebanon.

He also expressed his pride for the performance and professionalism of the Indonesian contingent members.(*)
