Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police on Friday officially detained Ustadz (teacher) Abrori, the principal of the Umar Bin Khatab (UBK) Islamic boarding school in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.

"After an intensive investigation, we decided to officially detain Abrori as of today because we have found enough proof of his involvement in a bomb explosion case," National Police Spokesman Brig. Gen. Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said here on Friday.

On Monday (July 7), a bomb exploded at the UBK boarding school in Sila vilalge, Dolo sub district, Bima district, at 3.30 pm local time, killing Firdaus, a teacher of the Islamic boarding school.

The NTB regional police later named Abrori in the incident as a terror suspect. He was intensively interrogated since Saturday, July 16.

The head of the regional police headquarters` public information division, Adjunct Commissioner Lalu Wirajaya, said Wednesday Ustadz Abrori was named a suspect after being interrogated intensively for five days since Saturday (July 16).

"Now, he has been named a suspect in a terrorism case based on articles 6,7,9 and 13 of Law Number 15 of 2003 on eradication of terrorism," he said.

Article 13 B of the law states among other things a person may be sentenced to a minimum of three years and a maximum of 15 years in jail for spreading hatred that could entice people to commit acts of terrorism.

Abrori surrendered to the police on July 15 at around 1pm and was taken to the West Nusa Tenggara Police Headquarters on Saturday (July 16).

The police in Bima have also named three of the school board`s seven members and several students suspects.

"The three were named suspects on Tuesday, July 19 while the four others were only charged with general offenses, namely obstructing police work," he said.

The three suspects were Rahmat Ibnu Umar (36) hailing from Talabiu, Woha subdistrict, Bima, Rahmat Hidayat (22) from O`o village, Dompu, and Mustakim Abdullah (17) also from O`o village.

Police said that the bomb explosion at the boarding school was believed to have link with Jemaah Anshorut Tauhid (JAT) established by Abu Bakar Baasyir.(*)
