Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia Ahmed El Kewaisny thanked Indonesia as a helpful partner in sharing its experience in building a democratic system after the political revolution earlier this year.

In the National Day commemoration of the Arab Republic of Egypt held here on Wednesday night (July 27), Kewaisny said that Indonesia has been helpful in giving lessons and experience after the country`s reforms in 1998.

Egypt and Indonesia have always enjoyed strong and positive relations throughout historical crossroads, Kewaisny said.

"We are looking forward to establishing a modern democratic system as a role model in the Middle East," he said.

At the moment, Egypt is now starting a democratic process, new constitution, parliament and president, in preparing a the general election.

The major event witnessed by the world on January 25, 2011, was considered as the will and determination of the Egyptian people who once displayed a historical moment, after a revolution led by the late president Gamal Abdel Naser on July 23, 1952.

"The Egyptian people have once again taken the helms of their destiny in their hands. Fierce political debates are currently raging in the country between political sects and factions," Kewaisny said.

Topics such as constitutional drafting, electoral reform, freedom of speech and practice of political rights are now features in regular discussions amongst ordinary Egyptians.

Kewainy also said that it is the honor of democracy that the people have come to appreciate as healthier and more constructive in the long term than autocratic stability and sluggish political reforms.

According to Kewaisny, the Egyptian foreign policy has always given special attention to relations with Indonesia, since the days of the Asia-African Conference in Bandung 1955.

"Egypt and Indonesia have forever enjoyed strong and positive relations throughout historical crossroads," he said.
