Gorontalo (ANTARA News) - Acting Bone Bolango regent Hamim Pou said the Thai government planned to grant a number of fishing boats for the people in the area.

Hamim said that when in Thailand some time ago he found out that the fishermen in that country went out into the sea for fishing the whole year round.

This he said is quite different from the habits of the fishermen of Bone Bolango regency who are going out into the sea when the weather is good.

"This is understandable because the fishing gear of the Bone Bolango fishermen are mostly special machines, while in Thailand they are using big boats," Hamim said Monday.

He said to raise the welfare of the fishermen, the Bone Bolango regency administration is empowering the fishermen with fishing boats which can be operated only when the weather is clear.

He said that there had been efforts of the regional administration to procure fishing boats for fishermen in Bone Bolango regency.

He said some time in the future we will have 40 to 60 gross tons fishing boats in Bone Bolango regency.

The fishing boats will have a capacity of 20 to 30 tibs if fish, Hamim said, adding that it did not know for sure the number of fishing boats to be granted but one thing is sure namely that the Thai government will give 3 or 5 of them for Bone Bolango regency.

"This would be the first time that the Thai government will grant fishing boats to the regional administration," Hamim said. (*)
