Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian fishery and seafood products recorded transactions valued at US$2.56 million at the Busan International Seafood & Fisheries Expo (BISFE 2023) at BEXCO in Busan, South Korea, on November 1-3, 2023.

Director of Primary Product Export Development of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Merry Maryati remarked that safe and high-quality Indonesian fishery and seafood products had once again become the main items. The exhibition is also considered to serve as a bridge to expand networks.

"This exhibition is a bridge for fisheries business partnerships between Indonesian fisheries business actors and potential buyers in South Korea and other countries," Maryati noted in a written statement from the Ministry of Trade in Jakarta, Tuesday.

In the exhibition, the Indonesian Pavilion featured nine participants comprising selected companies from various provinces that displayed a variety of fish and processed fish products.

Apart from displaying products, the participants also conducted business matching with potential buyers, most of whom came from South Korea.

"The Indonesian pavilion occupies a strategic location and displays superior products that are popular and sought after by the South Korean market, such as octopus, squid, shrimp, tuna, snapper, crab, as well as various kinds of processed fish and seafood food products," Maryati explained.

Exports of Indonesian fishery products to the South Korean market in 2022 were recorded at US$96.4 million. The export products included fish fillet, frozen fish, mollusks, octopus, shrimp, and seaweed.

The export trend of Indonesian fishery products in the last five years from 2018 to 2022 has grown by 8.4 percent.

Apart from Indonesia, the main exporters of fishery products to South Korea include Russia, China, Vietnam, Norway, the United States, Japan, Canada, Peru, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Fishery products imported by South Korea include shrimp, crab, octopus, frozen fish, and salmon.
