Langkat, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Pangkalan Susu seaport in North Sumatra`s Langkat district will be turned into an open seaport to boost the local people`s economy, the district administration said.

Deputy of Langkat district head, Budiono said here on Friday that the state-owned oil/gas company PT Pertamina, the Seaport organizing company PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I and the Langkat district administration had agreed to turn the Pangkalan Susu seaport status into an open seaport.

There are somethings to be formulated relating to the individual rights and obligation by giving priority to the local people interest, he said.

The ex-Pertamina`s seaport is expected to become the open one in effort to transport several commodities such as CPO and other products of the natural resources for export or import purposes.

In the meantime, Hartono who represented the Pelindo-I expressed his office readiness to develop the local business based on profit oriented principle by prioritizing the public interest.
