Dan Krueger, the city`s public works director, briefed the city council and mayor Annise Parker Wednesday morning on the drought`s impact, and the mayor plans to issue the water restrictions within the next week, according to local media reports.
The city will soon start drawing water from Lake Conroe, the city`s largest water supply, to stabilize the declining water level at Lake Houston, said Krueger.
Texas is officially in the midst of its second-worst drought on record, according to weather service meteorologists.
The state saw less than an inch of rain statewide in July, and more than 90 percent of Texas is currently in the two most extreme stages of drought. It has endured its driest 10 consecutive months on record. (C003/K004)
