Jakarta (ANTARA News) - This year`s Lebaran holiday exodus at Kalideres bus terminal in West Jakarta is to reach the highest point on Saturday.

"We predict that holiday travelers departing from Kalideres bust terminal for various cities in Wesst, Central, and East Java, and Sumatra will reach the highest point from Saturday afternoon until late at night," the terminal`s Inter-city Inter-province (AKAP) Bus Service spokesman Iwan Rukiadi said on Saturday.

He said the bus terminal since Saturday morning has been packed with around 11,000 prospective passengers, most of whom were heading for cities in Sumatra island.

According to Iwan, around 45,000 home-bound travelers from Jakarta would flock to Kalideres bus terminal on Satuday and Saunday to return to their home towns to observe Lebaran festivity with their family and relatives.

"Starting from this afternoon until late at night, much more passengers are expected to depart from here to cities in West Java, Central Java, and East Java," Iwan said at Kalideras bus terminal on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, multitudes of cars and motorcycles carrying home-bound Idul Fitri travelers were on Saturday reported to be packing Java`s northern and southern highways, as well as the Merak and Bakauheni ferry ports in Banten and Lampung respectively.

The drastically increased number of vehicles on the roads caused traffic jams at a number of locations, giving the traffic police a busy time maintaining order, and the vehicle drivers an opportunity to exercise patience.

From 11 am on Friday morning, traffic on the Cikampek toll road and the northern, central and southern highways of Java became increasingly heavy but the trend eased on Saturday morning.

To reduce traffic congestion at Jomin, Cikampek, and Kalihurip-Dawuan intersections, the traffic police had to apply an open-and-close system.

Chief of the Public Communication Center at the Transportation Ministry, Bambang S Ervan, said the traffic jams on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road continued to happen from Friday until Saturday morning.
