The epicenter of the quake was located around 271 kilometers northeast of Dili, Timor Leste, at a depth of 469 kilometers, according to the local Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.
The quake had no potential to cause a tsunami but it had been felt in a number of regions in the province such as Kupang, Soe in the district of South Central Timor, Kefa in the district of North Central Timor, Atambua in the district of Belu, Waingapu in East Sumba and in the district of Alor.
The quake caused panic in Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara, where some patients in a local hospital had ran out of the hospital out of fear.
"I was afraid and therefore I ran out of the room for safety," one of the hospital patients who almost recovered said.
No fatalities or physical damages had been reported so far after the quake. (*)
