"In two days of raid we nabbed around 200 newcomers," spokesman of the city public order agency Taspen Effendi said at Kiaracondong railway station here on Sunday.
The raid called operasi yustisi was conducted at Kiaracondong and Bandung railway stations and Cicaheum and Leuwi Panjang bus terminals, he said.
"The raid was aimed at lowering the number of newcomers who have no expertise in Bandung city. If they have unclear purpose they will be returned to their home towns," he said.
During the raid the city public order agency imposed no sanction on the newcomers but it only advised them to have Bandung city identity cards or temporary stay permits, he said.
"So the newcomers must report to the heads of the relevant neighborhood associations to have their identity recorded. By doing so, if unexpected thing happens we will know it soon," he said.
Most of the newcomers nabbed in the raid were students and factory workers.
Yuni, one of the newcomers, said she did not object to the raid.
The 19-year old girl who hails from the Central Java town of Kebumen said she did not have Bandung city identity card.
"My application for a temporary stay permit is still being processed by the head of the neighborhood association," said the student of state university UPI Bandung. (*)
