Seoul (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - South Korean defense minister Kim Kwan-jin will visit Indonesia this week to discuss defense cooperation and regional security issues, the defense ministry here said Tuesday.

During the three-day trip starting Wednesday, Kim will meet with Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro for talks over expanding their defense ties and sign an agreement to form a committee overseeing bilateral defense industrial cooperation, the ministry said in a statement.

The tour can lead also to discussions over choosing Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, South Korea`s major shipbuilder, as a preferred bidder for Indonesia`s submarine acquisition project worth 1 billion U.S. dollars, according to local reports.

Representatives from nine South Korean companies including Daewoo will reportedly accompany Kim on the trip.
