Action Coordinator Sri Happy Nisaun said the long march to the tomb of Munir at the public cemetery (TPU) in Sisir, Batu, was an expression of deep grief and sympathy and disappointment of the handling of Munir`s case up to the present time.
"We launched this action in Munir`s birth place in Batu, as a sign of deep sympathy from the students and people of Batu and a disappointment of the Munir case," he said.
Happy said the death anniversary of Munir is normally held only in Jakarta, but this time the seventh death anniversary along with scores of students and people is held in Batu, Munir`s birth place.
The long march is expected to remind the participants of the case of the murder of Munir seven years ago.
"The government is still ignorant of the Munir case, as it is still pending in the last seven years," he said.
In the meantime, Munir`s wife, Suciwati , who also took part in the action, said the solution of the Munir case had not achieved any progress.
Suciwati said that in solving the Munir case the people who had been arrested are still in the government, and the perpetrators are still untouched by the law.
"There has been no progress so far, and we will therefore ask for assistance of the UN human rights commission as part of efforts of settling the case which had been pending for the last seven years," she said.
Suciwati also hoped by asking the support of the international community, especially the UN human rights council, this case would be prioritized for its settlement.(*)
