Eddy Paryono, a coach with the Semarang Soccer Association (PSIS), made the statement here on Thursday following the national senior soccer team (Timnas) 0-2 loss to Bahrain last Tuesday (Sept.6) at Jakarta`s Bung Karno main stadium.
In the match, witnessed by some 70 thousand spectators including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, two goals for Bahrain were made by Sayed Dhiya Saeed at the 45th minute and Ismaeel Abdullatif Ismaeel at the 72nd minute.
"I think what should be done by Wim now is to change the Indonesian team`s strategy. including its playing style, because there is no more time to try to improve the team`s performance by selecting and inducting new players ," Paryono said.
According to Paryono, Wim should be able to make the Indonesian team readopt and apply its former playing style.
The team`s present playing style of relying on kicks from midfield to the opponent`s defense area was not suitable , Paryono said.
Moreover, the opponents were physically taller than the Indonesian players.
"I don`t understand why in facing Bahrain, Firman Utina and his friends always kicked the ball far into the front. Why they didn`t play short balls which would be more difficult to counter by their opponents?" Paryono said.
In the next match the senior soccer team had better play short balls or from foot to foot style and then advance towards the opponent`s defense area, he said.
"I think, with this kind of strategy, we can complicate things for the opponent`s back players compared to the high passes which can be easily interceoted by the opponent`s players who are physically taller," the PSIS coach said.
The Indonesian team in the Pre-World Cup 2011 round in group E will face Qatar in October.
In a tossup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil recently, the Indonesian soccer team was put in Group E along with Iran, Qatar and Bahrain.
