Hatta said people must respond to the WEF`s downgrading of the Indonesia`s competitiveness from the 44th to 46th rank coolly and take it as an input for overcoming existing shortcomings.
"It is not alarming. Investors are coming in. Surveys may go on. Survey results show that something needs to be improved," he said before attending a limited cabinet meeting on political, security and legal affairs at the presidential office.
Hatta said investors` main concerns were legal and business certainty.
"Their number one concern is certainty. This means public service. The second one is infrastructure," he said.
He said "infrastructure creates high cost such as ports. So we know where the battle is. Therefore I have always raised about infrastructure development. The MP3EI plan supports it. Under the program Jakarta`s Tanjung Priok port development is to be boosted. Railway development is to be boosted and others."
Regarding the Blackberry cellphone producer`s decision to build a plant in Malaysia despite the fact that the big market is i Indonesia Minister Hatta Rajasa said Indonesia need not worry about it.
"There are also investors who do not go to Malaysia but to Indonesia. referring to a tire company. We are also competing with Malaysia for that. So there is no need for us to be disappointed by it. What is important is how we could protect the market for our industries. We must exloit the domestic market well," he said.
Hatta said "it is a free world. It is up to them whether they want to go to our country or to other countries. We have tried to persuade them to come here but if they do not want to it is alright. Certainly, calculations will be made."
