Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) will be organized in Medan, North Sumatra, on September 13, 2011 to discuss the agenda of ASEAN community building and the implementation of the ASEAN Charter .

The ASEAN SOM would also discuss the follow-up to the 44th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM)/Post Ministerial Conferences/18th ASEAN Regional Forum, which was held in Bali, July 16-23, 2011, the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry said here in a statement on Saturday.

The SOM Leaders will discuss the further refinement of the modalities for the establishment of an ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation and the implementation of various agreements in order to realize the ASEAN Community, particularly under the Political-Security Pillar.

The preparations for the 19th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Bali, November 17-19, 2011, will also be taken up at the Meeting.

The SOM Leaders will look at developments in ASEAN`s external relations, especially in strengthening the cooperation with ASEAN Dialogue Partners, to be proposed as items for further discussion in the next 19th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

The meeting will also discuss the preparations for the Third ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council Ministerial Meeting in October 2011 and the ASEAN-UN Secretary-General and President of the UN General Assembly Meeting in September 2011, as well as ASEAN`s other initiatives and endeavors during Indonesia`s Chairmanship this year.

The ASEAN SOM will be chaired by Djauhari Oratmangun, the foreign affairs ministry`s director general for ASEAN Cooperation.
