Manila (ANTARA News) - Philippine authorities have captured a suspected wounded female member of the communist New People`s Army (NPA) on Sunday in southern province of Agusan del Norte, police said on Monday.

Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the NPA member was identified as Dedeth M. Enriquez, who was nabbed at Mahaba village in Cabadbaran City.

The rebel was allegedly wounded during an encounter between her groups and the Army troops on Aug. 31, 2011 in Puting Bato village of the same city and was brought to the hospital for medical treatment.

The NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, was formed on March 29, 1969. The latest military placed the NPA`s strength at more than 4,000.
