"We had to send the three men back to Surabaya, East Java, because we found out they did not have any clear goal to come to Ambon," Maluku Police Chief Brig. Gen. Syarief Gunawan said here on Tuesday.
Syarief said the three men, identified by their initials as AE, B, and D, arrived in Ambon without any evident interest and therefore they had to be sent back to their place of origin.
He pointed out that the National Police (Polri) has taken decisive action to control or limit the outsiders who managed to get into Ambon since the communal clash in the city on Sunday, September 11, 2011.
The military and police in Ambon are at present routinely conducting security checks on people arriving at Ambon`s Pattimura airport and Yos Sudarso seaport in an effort to keep Maluku`s provincial capital free from undesired elements.
"We carry out the routine security checks to weed out people who come to Ambon withour any clear goal," Syarief Gunawan said, adding that the regular checks on people who came to Ambon were done to ensure security so that it remained conducive after the September 11 communal clash in the city.
According to him, the regular supervision was conducted to deter outsiders suspected of wanting to disrupt the already conducive security situation in Ambon. (*)
