Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono chaired a meeting on Thursday to ascertain the status of preparations for the upcoming 19th ASEAN Summit in Bali in November, a minister said.

"It was for the purpose of an update on our preparations to host the 19th ASEAN Summit, both in terms of organization and substance, and the vice president gave directives on the preparations, substance, and implementation of the summit," Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said after the meeting with the vice president on Thursday.

The 19th ASEAN Summit and related summits will be held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) Bali, from November 14 -19, 2011 while its side events will be held at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) from 16 to 19 November 16 -19, 2011.

It will also be followed by an ASEAN+3 Summit (Japan, South Korea, and China) on Nov 18 and an East Asia Summit (EAS) on November 19 which is to be attended by the heads of state/government from 10 ASEAN member countries in addition to Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States.

According to Marty, preparations for all the events appeared to be proceeding according to plans.

Marty at the meeting also told the vice president about Indonesia`s achievements as the ASEAN chair this year and that Indonesia had set three priorities for ASEAN during its chairmanship.

The three priorities were to achieve significant progress in the establishment of an ASEAN Community by 2015, to maintain peace and stability in the region to support development programs, and to intensify ASEAN cooperation at the global level.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had also emphasized the need to involve the common people and NGOs in various ASEAN activities.

"There is ASEAN capacity building in conflict management as was seen in the handling of the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia," Marty said.
