"Therefore, besides Anny Ratnawati I also appointed Mahendra Siregar who was previously deputy trade minister (as a deputy finance minister)," the President said on Tuesday.
The President said the finance minister had increasingly formidable tasks either those related to internal or external affairs.
"The external tasks have to do with DPR (the House of Representatives) such as deliberating state budget and our role such as in G-20, ASEAN and APEC that require good coordination," he said.
Mahendra who graduated from the school of economics at University of Indonesia (UI) started his career at the Foreign Ministry in 1986.
While joining the Foreign Ministry Mahendra who was born in Jakarta on January 1, 1970 was third secretary for economic affairs at the Indonesian embassy in London from 1992 to 1995 and information envoy at the Indonesian embassy in Washington DC from 1998 to 2001.
In 2001 he was appointed special assistant to then economic minister Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti.
From 2005 to 2009 he was deputy for economic cooperation and international financing to the coordinating minister for economic affairs. (*)
