Located in the middle section of Luoxiao Mountain Range bordering Hunan Province in southwestern Shanxi Province, Jinggang Mountain has a tropical humid climate. It is warm in winter and cool in summer and autumn.
Unique landscape can be found here in all seasons. In spring azalea is in full blossom and vies with other flowers for beauty. In summer, the cascade of waterfalls brings in a clear and refreshing world. In autumn, laurel trees with their sweet red flowers, the yellow fir trees and the red maple trees make a kingdom of fragrance and color. And in the winter, pines are crowned with snows and the white peaks of mountains penetrate the hazy clouds.
The mountains are featured with majesty, peril, delicacy, solitude, and wonder. The water here is of myriad shape and style. And the clouds float and surge amid the hazy mountains.
There are 11 scenic areas, 70 scenic spots, and 460 scenic sights. And besides, there is a forest measuring 7000 hectares as well as a ten-li walkway planked by azalea trees.

Natural Ecology
Green Jinggang Mountain is endowed with charming natural sceneries. Jinggang Mountain, the middle-subtropical humid monsoon climate, is in possession of towering mountains, vast stretch of forest, clouds like waves of great momentum, unique flying waterfall, and fresh "natural oxygen bar", thus the State Council approved Jinggang Mountain among the first group of National Key Scenic Spot, so to speak the necessity of good opportunity and favorable geographical location. The mountain reveals the vitality because of water, brooks in Jinggang Mountain create many incomparable sceneries against the mountain; the peak are more precipitous because of stones, verdant peaks and colored mountains are decorated more outstanding by multiple plants; clouds are more changeable because of the fog, you will see winding clouds in mountainsides, floating clouds in valleys, drifting clouds in perilous peaks and dancing clouds on the top when ascending to a high place, which all add infinite vitality to glorious Jinggang Mountain.
Climate and Environment
Jinggang Mountain, belonging to sub-tropical monsoon climate, is characterized with distinctive seasons, abundant rainfall and annual mean temperature of 14.3 degree centigrade (of which January is coldest with average temperature of 3.3 degree centigrade and the lowest temperature of -11 degree centigrade while July is hottest with average temperature of 24 degree centigrade and the lowest temperature of 34.8 degree centigrade), average annual rainfall of 1856.2cm, annual mean rainfall days of 213 (of which the summer and autumn account for 73%), annual mean sunshine hours of 1511, average fog days of 97, and average frost-free period of 240 days. Influenced by the altitude and encircled completely by mountains, Ciping makes a feature of long winter, shorts summer, early autumn and late spring. The winter lasts 4-5 months and is cold rather than severe cold, because surrounding thick forest resists the cold current in winter; the midsummer lasts over 2 months and is hot rather than severe hot, because of low temperature in high mountains and wind in dense forest; in winter, you will enjoy yellow fir, red ample leaf all over the mountain; in spring, snow covering above the cloud and cold in the evening shapes an elegant scenery of "All flowers in late spring have fallen far and wide, but azaleas are in bud in Jinggang Mountain".
Covering an area of 261.43km2, Jinggang Mountain scenic spot consists of 11 scenic spots, 76 sight spots and more than 460 sceneries, endowed with elegant mountains, rapid brooks, vast stretches of forest, flying waterfall and flowing spring combing with majesty, steepness, elegance, serenity and wonder, also with peaks, mountain stones, waterfalls, solution caves, hot springs, rare animals and plants, alpines, pastoral scenes, sea of clouds of great momentum, wonderful and unique waterfalls, magnificent rising sun, Ten-li Azalea Corridor known both at home and abroad, Huangyangjie, octagonal building in Maoping, main peak of Jinggang Mountain as the background of RMB 100 Yuan, sub-tropical primitive secondary forest, valuable tree species, and rare animals and birds in the forest, which all make this red land more charming and people indulge in pleasure without return. After efforts for decades of years, six scenic spots (Ciping, Longtan, Main Peak, Huangyangjie, Maoping and Long City) and over 30 sight spots have been developed one by one. Jinggang Mountain is endued with beautiful scenery, enchanting views and fresh air, in which the number of negative oxygen ions in the air exceeds 8000 and even 12000 in some places, so titled as "Natural Oxygen Bar", free of pollution and noise and with the forest cover rate of 86% and excellent ecological environment (surpassing the first grade standard of the state), thus being an ideal tourism, recuperation and summer resort.
Mountain
Jinggang Mountain is famous for its mountain, decorated by the elegance of Nan Mountain. Enjoying dark green pines and bamboos all over the mountain, you will feel satisfied. Verdancy of Jinggang Mountain is real and natural. Countryside and lanes, mountain spring and running water, huge cliff and carved stone all spread their vitality, add vital force to verdancy, and make verdancy more appealing. Nothing is better than the beauty of Jingjia Mountain in Jinggang. In April and May, the azaleas are in full bloom, as the pretty brocade, as a beauty, charming and graceful. Long stretches of bamboos and pines, and Ten-li Azalea Corridor embellish Jinggang Mountain more attractive and elegant.
Jinggang Mountain is elegant, but not far from magnificent, in which mountains scatter in picturesque disorder and stretch to decades of li, and will make people filled with deep esteem although without majesty of mountains in northern part. The magnificence of Jinggang Mountain converges at Huangyangjie, the northern barrier of Jinggang Mountain, in which Red Army’s mountain pass and military works are still preserved and tourists seem to hear "thundering guns in Huangyangjie"; long stretches of rolling mountains here are cliffy and penetrate into the sky, as a vast expanse of water, formerly "Wangyangjie". Sea of clouds is the most splendid landscape in Huangyangjie, which makes it become misty mountains among broad sea of clouds, like smoke and uncut jade at times. A mass of mist emerges suddenly between two mountains and above groves after a spatter of spring rain, whose miracle is abundant with interest and charm.

Water
The soul of Jinggang Mountain is water. Entering into the mountain, you can go upward along the rushing mountain stream and smell fresh air with pleasant soil perfume. Famous waterfalls in great varieties all over the mountain are countless, and Longtan Scenic Spot is famous for clusters of waterfalls. A large deep valley decorates here, surrounded by verdancy. Along the mountain stream, the five waterfalls clusters with clear jade water in different features, surging and rushing, graceful and charmingly shy, with two separate flows of water and like colorful screens. Waterfalls here always appear all of a sudden in mountain corners and hide in deep verdant mountains and dense forest, as if they are not inclined to compete for elegance of mountains but don’t submit to hide deeply, so you must approach and then enjoy their grand panorama; you will hear roar everywhere and see faint silver waterfall in case of intending to find them, therefore the wit of water is a joy forever.
Shuikou Scenic Spot is an ideal tourist attraction for tasting rustic charms and enjoying the wit of water, in which ancient trees touch the sky, running water murmurs, mountain roads spread along the long gorge, brooks winds upward of their own, jade green water flows and disappears among insensate stones, pines and bamboos. What is a winding path leading to a secluded spot? You will have best experience here. However, you will go downhill in a short time, and the view suddenly cleared up. On one side, a large waterfall hangs high in the cliff and breaks the air downward, so the scenery becomes wild rather than elegant. Tourists sit in the pavilion to overlook the scenery and applaud the picturesque views.
Rare Animals
With long-term nourishment of the East Asian monsoon and under complex land features and natural conditions, Jinggang Mountain Natural Reserve is abundant in animal species, such as Class I and Class II National Protected Wild Animals. It is an important base for mid-subtropical biological resources in China even all over the world, endowed with temperate climate, excellent hydrothermal conditions and well-developed zonal forest vegetation, and an natural reserve characterized by early establishment at home, strong representativeness and typicality, and taking mid-subtropical humid evergreen broad-leaved forest ecosystem and its biodiversity as main protected objects. Fine forest vegetation within the area creates a good living environment for wild animals. In accordance with the investigation data, there are 267 vertebrates within this area, of which more than 30 rare animals are listed as national key protected species, such as Cabot's Tragopan, Elliot's pheasant, clouded leopard, silver pheasant, Asian golden cat, oriental civet cat, lesser civet cat, Sichuan macaque and giant salamander etc. and there are also over 3000 species of insects.
Rare Plants
Jinggang Mountain is a "Green Pearl" and "Natural Oxygen Bar", in which forest coverage rate is up to 92%; it is also a treasury for rare animals and plants, provided with more than 30 national key protected rare animals and plants and 4 Class I national protected plants such as southern Chinese yew, bole tree, gingko and Abies ziyuanensis.

Jinggang Mountain is not only famous for its revolutionary history but also abundant in resources, with peaks over peaks, verdant forest, curling cloud and mist, moderate and moist climate, fertile oil, bamboo and forest all over the mountain, medicinal materials, birds and beasts, and creatures in great variety, of which Chinese rock frog, rock tripe, stone fish and Chinese giant salamander are great four delicacies with unique flavors in Jinggang Mountain. It is also abound in winter bamboo shoots, water-soaked bamboo slice, mushroom, Jew's ear, tea, ginger, oval kumquat, bayberry, Chinese gooseberry and Chinese olive etc., of which water-soaked bamboo slice in Changping, mushroom in Huang’ao, Jinggang Cuilv and Biyu Tea, ginger in Xiaqi, oval kumquat in Hongping and Chinese gooseberry in Jinzhu are famous native products. Various Chinese medicinal plasnts are club-moss, Hejue, wall fern, Chinese wolfberry, Marattiales, Osmunda japonica, Polygonum suffultum Maxim, Honghuachang, potygonum multiflorum thunb, giant knotweed, potato, asarum, Catunaregam spinosa in Lu Mountain, China Mahonia, Cyclea racemosa Oliv., Cangbaigangoufeng, radix dichroae, fructus evodiae, toddalia asiatic, Chinese goldthread, Zuanshanfeng, O.citriodorum, heracleum, Leafy Paris, panax japonicus, notoginseng, litsea cubeba, Galeola lindleyana, Mongolian snakegourd, Baijiegu, dendrobium, Xianxi’eyu, riparian greenbrier, lily of the yantze valley, root of subprostrate sophora, rattlesnake plantain, begonia fimbristipula Hance, Panshegui, spreading hedyotis herb, Morrison knotweed, Sarcandra Glabra, Folium Pyrrosiae, ciliate bugle, field-balm, moonwort and snakeroot etc.
