Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Thailand made a clean sweep of three gold medals on the first day of the women`s weightlifting event in the 26th SEA Games in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Sunday.

Thailand`s first gold medal in the weightlifting competition came from Panida Khamsri with a total lift of 187 kg in the 48-kg class. She lifted 84 kg for her snatch and 103 kg for her clean and jerk.

Thai Prapawadee Jaroenrattana added to Thailand`s gold medals from the women`s weightlifting event when she emerged as champion in the 53-kg class with a total lift of 205 kg consisting of 90 kg from the snatch and 115 kg from the clean and jerk.

Thailand`s third gold medal came from Rattikan Gulnoi with a total lift of 223 kg consisting of 223 kg for the snatch and 125 kg for the clean and jerk.

Host Indonesia meanwhile collected a silver medal and two bronze medals in the women`s weightlifting event. Citra Febriyanti contributed the only silver medal to the Indonesian contingent after she ranked second in the 53-kg class with a total lift of 203 kg.

The two bronze medals came from Masitoh in the 48-kg class with a total lift of 161 kg and Okta Dwi Pramitha in the 58-kg class with a total lift of 207 kg.

Vietnam meanwhile grabbed a silver medal after its lifter Pham Thuy Dung successfully lifted a total of 167 kg in the 48-kg class and a bronze medal from Nguyen Thi Thuy in the 53-kg class with a total lift of 200 kg.

The other silver medal went to the Philippines after its lifter Hidilyn Diaz successfully lifted a total of 215 kg in the 58-kg class.(*)
