Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government has approved additional gas allocations for state electricity company PT PLN to meet its power plants` gas need of 62.72 billion british thermal unit per day (BBTUD) in 2011.

The policy was set forth in the energy and mineral resources minister`s decree number 2763K/12/MEM/2011 on additional gas allocations for power plants in 2011, a copy of which was made available to the press on Tuesday.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik signed the decree on October 28, 2011.

The decree was issued on account that power plants` dependence on fuel oils needed to be supported by gas supplies by observing the economic aspect of investment in the gas sector.

Under the decree, the additional gas allocations come from four gas fields. They are Singa field in South Sumatra managed by Medco Lematang, South Central Sumatra field operated by Medco South Central Sumatra, West Madura Offshore field operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi West Madura Offshore, and Jambi Merang operated by JOB Pertamina Hulu Energi-Talisman Jambi Merang.

"BP Migas (Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Body) must take steps to ensure adequate gas allocations by always taking into account the economic aspect of investment in the development of gas field," the decree said.(*)
