Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have named four suspects in the election-related torching of the Kotawaringin Barat (Kobar) district chief`s official residence and another house in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, a spokesman said.

"We have named four suspects in the Kobar arson case which happened last Thursday (Dec 29)," the head of the National Police Headquarters` public relations division, Insp Gen Saud Usman Nasution, said here Monday.

The four had been identified by their initials as S bin M, GH bin GT, AG and ABD, who were all Kobar residents. They would be charged under Criminal Code articles on vandalism and arson, Saud said, adding the material loss they had caused was estimated at Rp3.5 billion.

The arsonist action happened when a crowd of supporters of Kobar district chief election candidate pair Sugianto-Eko Sumarno demonstrated to express their rejection of a Constitutional Court ruling declaring another candidate pair, Ujang Iskandar-Bambang Puwanto, the winner of the election that took place in mid-2011.

"They went to the official residence of the Kobar district chief in Pangkalan Bun, and vandalized and torched the building. Thereafter, they approached the house of a local resident who had testified in the Constitutional Court hearings and also vandalized and burnt down his house," Saud said.

The police had also confiscated two cars used to transport the Sugianto-Eko Sumarno pair supporters and two gasoline jerrycans.

Saud said the police would conduct a deeper investigation of the case to find out who the incident`s mastermind was.
