Karimun, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - Customs officers in Tanjung Balai Karimun port in Riau Islands have confiscated a total of 7,018 ecstasy pills from an MV Tuah passenger worth Rp1.43 billion.

"The value of the 7,018 ecstasy pills that we confiscated from Candro was around Rp1,403,600,000 based on an assumption of one pill worth Rp200,000," head of enforcement and prevention of the Tanjung Balai Karimun customs service, R Agung L, said in a press conference here on Monday.

He said all the pills in green color were smuggled by suspect Candro from Kukup, Malaysia. Candro is an Indonesian national hailing from Tanjungbatu but has long lived in Batam.

"Customs already suspected him upon disembarking. He showed strange behavior, looked worried and pale. When his bag was checked by an X-Ray no ecstasy was found there but upon body search officers discovered suspicious items in his hip, thigh and calf," he said.

Upon further examination it was found the items contained ecstasy pills. Candro also hid the illegal stuff in his underwear.

Candro is facing Law Number 35 of 2009 on narcotics.
