Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Domestic policies of several member countries of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nation) are hampering the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration, an official said.

"There are several member countries who are financially advanced but posses a domestic policy to restrict Human Rights," said an Indonesian delegate for the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Rafendi Djamin here, Monday (Jan 16).

Rafendi refuses to mention the member countries that have certain policy, but he said that these countries still have a paradigm human rights would just bring down the country.

"In several cases, nation collapsed because of human rights implementation, so they are very cautious about it. But democracy would not going well without human rights enforcement," said the former human rights activist.

The wise and clever implementation of human rights became an important foundation for the future of a better country, because it is sustainable and can maintain conflicts.

Therefore ASEAN Human Rights Commission wanted the 10 member states to work together and can complete the declaration this year.

"We are still in the frame of reference phase and will be heard in the near future," he said.

AICHR consists of 10 commissioners, each representing the 10 ASEAN member countries. Several issues were put forward in the preparation of the ASEAN Declaration of Human Rights, such as migrant workers, violence against women, political participation of women, discrimination law and policy, and economic rights.(*)
