"If the leadership of personnel dealing with riots, unrest and anarchic actions in the field is good, the results will be good. On the contrary, if the men in the field are led by officers with poor leadership capability, failure will haunt you in your tasks," the president said when addressing a National Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police leadership meeting here on Friday.
The head of state asked the TNI and Police chiefs to make sure that field commanders receive good education, training and guidance.
TNI and Polri must be able to prevent casualties whenever they handle violent actions in the field.
Officers in the frontline must be determined to carry out their tasks, but there should be victims. I will pay attention to this matter and it must be implemented by police officers," he said.
The president urged TNI and Polri to improve their performance and achievements in 2012.
"I will wait for good news early next year that this year TNI and Polri personnel have really improved their performance and achievements," Yudhoyono said.
The TNI and Police leadership meeting is participated in by 312 personnel consisting 156 high ranking officers from TNI and 156 from Polri.
