Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - The Aceh Independent Election Commission (KIP) has admitted that it is unable to implement all the decisions of the Supreme Court on the implementation of elections in the region and therefore will ask for a postponement until April 9.

"We are not able to carry out all the decisions of the court because some candidates have registered through individual channels," commissioner Yarman Adidharma said here on Monday.

The Supreme Court in a meeting on January 17 issued a decision Number 1/SKLN-X/2012 after the home affairs minister filed a complaint to the General Elections Commission (KPU) and KIP regarding inter-institutional dispute over authority.

Under the ruling the court ordered Aceh KIP and KIPs of districts/cities to re-open registration of candidates to run for governor, district heads and city mayors and their deputies for seven days after the issuance of the ruling.

The court has also ordered KPI Aceh and KIPs of districts and cities to carry out verification and other elections stages with regard to confirming the candidates.

Yarman said KIP could carry out the re-opening of the registration as well as health checks and the Koran literacy test "but we are not able to conduct verification on individual candidates such as checking the validity of the IDs of their supporters as it would take long. Seven days are not enough for it," he said.

Therefore KIP Aceh and KIPs of districts and cities would come to the Constitutional Court to ask for it to extend the date of elections from formerly on February 16 to April 9.

The elections of Aceh governor, 17 district heads and city mayors out of 23 districts/cities in the province would be carried out simultaneously.

Yarman said he would explain to the Constitutional Court technicalities of the verification of supporters and time needed for it.

"We hope what we are going to convey could be used for consideration and included in the final ruling of Case Number 1/SKLN-X/2012," he said.
