The medical test was conducted at Zainoel Abidin regional general hospital by a team of independent doctors from the Aceh branch of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI).
All the 14 pairs of candidates for Aceh governor and deputy governors, district heads and mayors came from the Aceh Party. They nominated themselves for the posts following a Supreme Court decision requiring the Aceh provincial and district/municipal independent elections committees (KIPs) to re-open registration of candidates to run for governor, district heads and city mayors and their deputies for seven days after the issuance of the ruling.
The Supreme Court in a meeting on January 17 issued a decision Number 1/SKLN-X/2012 after the home affairs minister filed a complaint to the General Elections Commission (KPU) and KIPs regarding inter-institutional dispute over authority.
The elections of Aceh governor, 17 district heads and city mayors out of 23 districts/cities in the province would be carried out simultaneously on February 16.
The court has also ordered KPI Aceh and KIPs of districts and cities to carry out verification and other elections stages with regard to confirming the candidates. (*)
