Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has declared Miranda Goeltom as a new suspect in the bribery in her election as Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor for 2004.

KPK chairman Abraham Samad said in Jakarta Thursday that the anti-corruption institute already has strong evidence of Miranda`s involvement.

It was disclosed on Thursday that Miran`s status has been raised from witness to suspect.

With regard to the bribery of a number of members of the council for the 1999-2004 period, the KPK has declared only one suspect of bribery, namely Nunun Nurbaeti.

Nunun wife of former deputy police chief Adang Daradjatun has been suspected to acting as a go-between in the issuance of a travel check as bribe.

Miranda, Abraham said, can face article 5 para 1 point b of the law No 30 of 1999 as amended by Law No 20 of 2001 on corruption eradication (Tipikor).

Under the article, the former Bank Indonesia deputy governor may face a minimum of one year and maximum of five years in jail.

Not only that, she is also facing article 13 of the corruption law and participating article 55 paras 1 and 2 of the Penal Code.

Abraham said Miranda has helped or take part in helping NN in committing corruption by providing a travel check. Under those articles, the suspect may face heavier punishment if proven guilty. (*)
