"We must project Islamic teachings in their best forms. But, this message will only be effective if we as Muslims implement the Islamic values as the most advanced civilization in the 13th century. It means, we establish cooperation, build togetherness. Our capability must be able to response with the culture of peace, common tolerance," the president said in his speech at the Seventh Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) here on Monday.
Parliaments and governments must be able to boost the empowerment of politic, economic and community, he said.
The head of state emphasized the importance of people`s empowering because many of Muslim-majority countries are categorized poor.
By applying Islamic values to address the problems, the president hoped solutions and way outs could be achieved.
"Indonesia tries to use Islamic values and democracy to address problems facing us," the president said.
He said Indonesia was proud to be a house of all major religions and has diversity.
"We are happy that Indonesia can implement democracy, Island and human rights at the same time," he said.
