Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Defense Forces (TNI) is organizing another anti-terrorism exercise to improve the professionalism of its soldiers and increase synergy among its three forces` anti-terrorism squads.

Assistant for operations to the TNI chief Maj Gen Hambali Hanafiah on behalf of TNI chief Admiral Agus Suhartono opened the exercise which took place at the Merah Square of the Air Force`s Special Force Corps (Korpaskhas) command station at the Sulaiman Air Base here on Monday.

In his opening address read out by Maj Gen Hambali, Admiral Agus said national security situation would increasingly become complex in the future.

"At the start of 2012 we faced a number of security disturbances in several parts of the country, including an armed group and separatist movement which were still waging a guerrilla in Papua and Aceh, physical clash among groups of people and actions by certain quarters which posed a threat in the community," he said.

In this connection, the TNI must play a role in anticipating and overcoming the various security disturbances, the more so if they posed a threat to the state sovereignty and integration, he said.

Therefore, he added efforts must be made to draw up strategic contingency steps to anticipate and address the various security disturbances.(*)
