"The room occupancy rate is closely related to foreign and domestic tourist arrivals in the Paradise Island," Head of the Bali Provincial Statistics Office I Gede Suarsa said here on Friday.
A total of 253,591 foreign tourists visited Bali in December 2011, an increase of 13.04 percent compared to 221,603 a month earlier, he said.
The significant increase in the number of tourist arrivals had a significant impact on the rising room occupancy rate of star-rated hotels in Bali, he said.
He said Badung topped the list of districts in terms of room occupancy rate with 64.04 percent. But the figure fell from 72.09 percent the month before.
Tabanan came in second with 58.20 percent, jumping from 25.04 percent, Denpasar in third with 57.45 percent, up from 55.58 percent, and Gianyar in fourth with 53.30 percent, up from 40.73 percent a month earlier.
The room occupancy rate of hotels in Buleleng and Karangasem districts averaged 32.33 percent and 31.86 percent respectively in December 2011.
He said three districts, namely Jembrana, Bangli and Klungkung had no star-rated hotels.(*)
