Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Airbus Military has signed a deal with PT Dirgantara Indonesia to provide nine transport military planes for the country`s ministry of defense.

In a press statement received here on Wednesday the deal was signed at the current Singapore Airshow, witnessed by defense minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Indonesian defense forces commander Admiral Agus Suhartono.

The aircraft will be used by the Indonesian Air Force for carrying out military, logistics and humanitarian missions as well as medical evacuation.

The first plane will be delivered this year and in the middle of 2014 it is expected all of them will have been delivered.

The deal also includes collaboration for the C295 program covering manufacturing of tail part stabilizer (tail empennage), back part of fuselage and panels.

They have also agreed on a work package for the development of computer-based training system, service center and delivery and final assembling line in Indonesia.

"This is a moment of pride for us and also Indonesian aviation industry," Purnomo said.

He hoped the C295 plane could answer the future need for military and humanitarian mission transport facility.

PT Dirgantara`s president and CEO Budi Santoso meanwhile said that the agreement had been built out of long partnership between Airbus Military and the Indonesian aircraft industry.

"Today`s deal will be able to give our country the right capability for the future and a room for PT DI to develop its aviation business as a first class supplier and put PT DI in the global aviation industry map," he said.

Airbus President and CEO domingo Urena-Raso said the deal reflected the value of C295 which is intended for armed forces across the world. (*)
