Jakarta, Feb 18 (ANTARA0 - Jakarta`s Tanjung Priok seaport is ready to receive 6,000-TEU-capacity ships, the secretary of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo II), Rima Novianti, said here on Saturday.

"The facilities available at Tanjung Priok port are ready to receive 6,000 TEU-capacity ships," she said after visiting the Jakarta International Container Terminal to see loading and uploading actitivities at a 4,500-TEU-capacity ship, the Maersk Garrone.

She said "the equipment used for uploading has international standards and we from Pelindo II believe there will be no problem for it to serve bigger capacity ships."

Rima said the arrival of a 6,000-TEU-capacity ship was expected in March and it would be the biggest ship ever to arrive at Tanjung Priok.

On Sunday (Feb 2) Pelindo II`s president director RJ Leno said the arrival of ships with a capacity of more than 4,000 TEUs reflected the confidence of the international port community in Tanjung Priok port.

He said Pelindo II continued increasing its port services to prove that it seriously worked to improve the ports under its management to be able to compete at international levels.

The biggest ship to come to Tanjung Priok later was the Northern Loop Service operated by Maersk Line and it was scheduled to dock at Jakarta International Container Terminal for a week.

The arrival of the ship would be a followup to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between PT Pelindo II and AP Moller-Maersk A/S in Copenhagen, Denmark in September 2011.
