Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - The government has allocated Rp26.852 billion in funds to finance a food security program in West Nusa Tenggara province this year, an official said.

"The budget allocation rose 13.29 percent compared to the budget year 2011," Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Food Security Board (BKP) Husnanidiaty Nurdin said here on Sunday.

The food security funds included deconcentration fund worth Rp12.050 billion from the Agriculture Ministry and co-administration fund worth Rp6.421 billion for district governments to carry out additional tasks signed by the central government, she said.

The budget allocation increased 8.62 percent from Rp17.004 billion in the budget year 2011, she said.

She said Rp8.381 billion of the funds came from the provincial budget. The figure rose 25.15 percent from Rp6.697 billion in the previous year.

She said Rp9.247 billion of the deconcentration fund was allocated to the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Food Security Board, Rp933.440 million to West Lombok district, Tp1.004 billion to Central Lombok district, and Rp864.300 million to North Lombok district.

Meanwhile, Rp1.074 billion of the co-administration fund was allocated to Mataram municipality, Rp1.091 billion to East Lombok district, Rp678.800 million to West Sumbawa district, Rp712.400 million to Sumbawa district, Rp728.900 million to Dompu district, Rp1.050 billion to Bima district and Rp1.084 billion to Bima municipality, she said.

West Sumbawa received the smallest amount of co-administration fund among the six districts because the use of such fund in 2011 reached less than 25 percent of the target of 40 percent set by the Agriculture Ministry, she said.

She said a great deal of the food security fund was directly distributed among local people to finance a number of activities, including social assistance, use of idle land by women`s organization, procurement of food reserves at village level and handling of areas susceptible to food scarcity.
