Garut, West Java (ANTARA News) - Some 53 houses had been damaged by a whirlwind Tarogong village, Tarogong Kidul sub-district, Garut regency, West Java, Sunday afternoon.

"The whirlwind struck at 1.30 pm local time, and 53 houses were damaged," Tarogong Kidul sub-district chief Aji Sukarmaji said.

Some 52 were damaged, and one seriously.

But nobody was killed in the natural disaster, only material loss which is still being determined.

The whirlwind struck when it was heavily raining coupled with strong winds in the sub-district.

After the rain stopped, a number of residents with the assistance of Military members removed what is left of the strong wind and several trees had also fallen.

Garut military commander Lt Col Edi Yusnandar said he has collected some of his men to help the victims of the houses damaged by the strong wind.
