Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Maritime and Fishery Ministry (KKP) has allocated Rp604 billion in Rural Fishery Business Development (PUMP) scheme in 2012 to expand the number of recipients of the scheme, a minister said.

"As part of its effort to eliminate poverty in the maritime and fishery sector, the KKP in 2012 resumes the PUMP program with a bigger budget and an expansion of recipient number," Maritime and Fishery Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said in a press statement here on Sunday.

The minister said that the PUMP was intended to increase fish production, develop fishery entrepreneurship and improve the prosperity of people in the maritime and fishery sector in villages.

He said that the maritime and fishery ministry had set itself a target of 7,300 groups who would receive the PUMP aid with a total assistance of Rp604 billion.

The minister said that the target for 2011 was exceeded with a production of 6.97 million tons from the targeted at 6.84 million tons, or about 101.89 percent. The number of recipients reached 2 thousand groups in 33 provinces and 300 districts throughout Indonesia.

Based on the KKP data, the contribution of cultured fish to the national production in 2011 reached 56.33 percent. The cultured fish production was recorded at 6.97 million tons exceeding the target of 6.84 million tons. (*)
