Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The deputy director of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Michiko Miyamoto, said that the labor conditions in Indonesia have improved.

"There has been a lot of progress with regard to the conditions of workers in Indonesia, especially female workers," she said here on Thursday after a book launch.

She also noted that Indonesia has ratified eight ILO conventions regarding core labor standards.

"By participating in the ratification of the eight conventions, Indonesia has shown its will to improve the conditions of its workers and it has already been proved," she said.

Michiko said, however, that the Indonesian government had to continue monitoring conditions at lower levels, especially in small and medium businesses.

"Usually the problems in small businesses, especially discrimination at workplaces such as sexual harassment are ignored," Michiko said.

In view of that, she appealed to the government to improve the system to understand what is happening in those areas because without clear data the government would not be able to take any action.
