Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has launched a blue print for a national logistics system to develop national competitiveness and support the implementation of the Master plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI) 2011-2025.

The blue print functions as a reference for ministers, heads of non-ministerial institutes, governors, and district heads/mayors in drawing up policies and work plans related to the development of national logistics system, the Cabinet Secretariat said on its official website on Wednesday.

The implementation of the blue print will be coordinated by the Committee for the Acceleration and Expansion of the Indonesian Economic Development (KP3EI) 2011-2025 to be led by the President, with the Vice President as deputy chief and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs as day-to-day chairman.

According to the blue print from the Presidential Regulation No. 26/2012, the national logistics cost currently reaches 27 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

The government sees that the development of national logistics is still facing a number of problems; such as lack of infrastructure, illegal levies and transaction fees leading to a high-cost economy, and limited capacity and networks for logistic services.

The results of a logistic performance index survey conducted by the World Bank indicate that Indonesia ranks 75th among the 155 countries surveyed. The survey ranks Singapore at number 2, Malaysia at 29, Thailand at 35, the Philippines at 44, and Vietnam at 53.

The blue print will be translated into the work plans of the government and ministries/non-ministerial institutes every year.

The government also expects the national logistic system to play a role in achieving the target of the medium-term development plan for 2010-2014, supporting the implementation of MP3EI and reaching the per capita GDP target of US$14,250-US$15,500 by 2025.
