Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General`s Office (AGO) has indicated that the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulating Agency (BP Migas) has been implicated in an alleged corruption case involving PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI).

The possible corruption case, which was believed to cause a loss of US$270 million to the state, was linked to a bio-remedy project to clean waste-contaminated soil by CPI.

Andhi Nirwanto, Junior Attorney General for Special Crime Affairs (Jampidsus), said here on Monday that BP Migas represented the Indonesian government in the contract with Chevron.

Nirwanto was reluctant to disclose whether anyone from BP Migas would be named as a suspect. He said his office has been investigating the case. "We examined the case before investigating it," he added.

Jampidsus investigators have been questioning parties who are believed to be implicated in the case. "We have questioned witnesses YP and YD from CPI and HAF from the KLH (office of the environment minister)," he said.

The AGO previously named seven suspects linked to the environment project by CPI.

Jampidsus said the case took place in Sumatra, which began when the budget was set aside for the restoration of soil contaminated by oil-drilling activities. The project was underway during the 2003-2011 period and had a budget of US$270 million.
