Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - The Pekanbaru Police department will deploy 800 personnel to secure the anti-fuel price hike rally on March 29, an official said.

"They will be placed in several vital facilities predicted to be at the center of the rally in Pekanbaru city. According to a report, Thursday`s rally will gather a large number of protesters," Chief of Pekanbaru Police senior Commissioner Adang Ginanjar said here on Wednesday.

However, Adang emphasized that his personnel would not be equipped with guns. Instead, they will be using wooden bats and shields. "We want to avoid casualties on the field," he said.

Furthermore, Adang has called upon the protesters to carry out their protests peacefully.

Information from several activists and students in Pekanbaru indicates that Thursday`s rally will concentrate in front of the Riau province`s governor office, regional representative council office and the roundabout in front of Pekanbaru mayor`s office.
