Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A flash flood that hit Southeast Aceh district on Thursday night left at least 162 houses damaged, the National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) said.

The flood also destroyed 75 hectares of cocoa plantations, 30 hectares of corn plantations, 86 hectares of paddy field, and nine hectares of fishpond, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of the agency`s center of information data said.

The flood also left five people injured.

A total of 132 families or 460 people took refuge because their houses were damaged in the flood.

Earlier, Secretary of Southeast Aceh district Hasanuddin Darjo said hundreds of people forcibly fled to higher grounds after a flash flood swept through a number of villages in the district. (*)
