"So many domestic electricity lighting industries have idle capacity."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Electrical Lighting Industry Association (Aperlindo) has predicted Indonesia`s electrical lighting imports from China reached 80 million units in the year to March 2012.

"Our electrical lighting imports from China until the end of last month accounted for 20 percent of our overall electrical lighting imports which reached 217 million units last year. As a result, the competitive edge of the national electrical lighting industries continues to decline," Aperlindo chief John Manopo said here on Tuesday.

Director General of High Technology-Based Excellent Industry at the Industry Ministry Budi Darmadi said the national electricity lighting industries had adequate capacity. But electricity lighting imports particularly from China continued to flood the domestic market.

"Our demand for electricity lighting is high but is met by imports. So many domestic electricity lighting industries have idle capacity," he said.

According to him, national electricity lighting industries were still unable to produce IC so that they imported it from Taiwan.

"IC is used to control electrical current. IC for one lamp is sold for around Rp100 thousand and for other lamp it can fetch Rp2 million," he said.

Budi said all locally-made electricity lamps must carry Indonesian National Standard (SNI) labels.
