"The role of PERIP members in politics should continue to increase."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - First Lady Hj. Ani Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has encouraged members of the Retired Servicemen and Policemen Wives Association (PERIP) to be more active in the political realm.

"The role of PERIP members in politics should continue to increase," Ani said at the 48th anniversary of PERIP in Cijantung, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

On the occasion, she called on the wives of retired servicemen and policemen to be more courageous and involved in politics.

"I would like to encourage the wives of retired servicemen and policemen to be actively involved in politics, through any political party," Ani stated.

She also expressed hope that they would set an example for the next generation.

Ani then praised PERIP chairwomen Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar, who is concurrently the minister of women`s empowerment and child protection, for her success in developing the PERIP at the central and regional levels.

Meanwhile, Linda said she was committed to helping the government overcome the problems of the country.

"PERIP will continue to play its role in protecting and maintaining the noble values of this nation," she said.
